Construction
The Nectar mattress is made from three different layers of different varieties of foam, in addition to a quilted cover on top. It is 11” thick and is designed to be appealing to most sleepers, with a variety of features included to enhance the cooling and responsiveness of the mattress.
Layers
Top – The top layer is made from 1” of gel memory foam, and it is quilted within the cover to provide cooling and comfort for the sleeper. The gel memory foam is better than other kinds of memory foam at providing cooling, which allows sleepers to enjoy the mattress even more. Additionally, this layer also works as pressure relief, which makes it useful for those with back or neck issues.
Second – The second layer is the first layer which is part of the mattress itself. It is made from 3” of memory foam and is designed to provide hug and contour for the mattress. Sleepers interact with this layer once they’ve sunk through the uppermost, quilted layer on the cover. The second layer also works to provide support and comfort before sleepers reach the base layer that is more dense.
Third – The third layer is comprised of 1.75” of memory foam. This additional layer of memory foam before the foundational layer offers more support and pressure relief than you would get if you just interacted directly with the base foam layer, and helps make the Nectar a bit more comfortable.
Bottom – The bottom layer is made from 5.25” of high density support foam. This layer acts as the foundation for the mattress, helping to preserve its shape and support the upper layers. It also provides deep compression support that heavier sleepers and side sleepers will enjoy.
As you can see, the construction of the Nectar mattress is a bit different than most of the foam mattresses we’ve looked at, in that it takes advantage of a top layer attached to the cover of the mattress. This allows the Nectar to provide better cooling than other foam mattresses, which is a common complaint that people have with mattresses of this type.
Cover
The Nectar cover is made from a combination of Tencel and cotton. This combination of materials gives the cover breathability and airflow while keeping it soft and gentle to the touch. We’ve talked a bit about Tencel before, but you should know that it’s a fabric that comes from the Eucalyptus tree, and it is favored because of the breathability the fabric provides.
In addition to the cover itself, there is 1” of gel memory foam stitched within the cover itself. This helps provide more cooling support for the mattress, and helps to make it a more comfortable nights rest as well, as the gel and memory foam materials provide a soft and comfortable surface, while at the same time having sufficient airflow to keep the mattress cool and move heat away from the body.
The cover fits within the standard foam mattress cover expectations in terms of color. It has a white top and grey side panels. The Nectar also includes a blue detail line running between the top and side panels, and the white top has a quilted pattern to help it hold on to the gel-memory foam layer it supports. The quilted pattern adds a nice look to the mattress without creating unusual or distracting textures while sleeping.
One nice thing that sets Nectar apart from other mattress companies is that they will provide you with 1 new cover per mattress if you are not able to clean the cover using spot cleaning methods. They provide this service for free, which is a rarity in the online mattress industry, and speaks well for Nectar’s dedication to customer service.
Firmness, Feel, Support
As we said before, the Nectar is designed to appeal to the majority of sleepers. On a scale from 1-10, with 1 being the least firm and 10 being the most firm, the Nectar mattress rates at a 5.5 This puts it in the range where most people will enjoy it, no matter their weight or sleeping preferences.
The higher density memory foam that Nectar uses in its mattress helps give the mattress more durability and longevity. These foams also result in a deeper hug than some of the other foam mattresses on the market. The high density memory foam wraps along the shape of your body to provide good contour.
Another thing that’s important to note about the Nectar and the materials used in its construction is that the mattress does not have the most responsive feel we’ve seen. It takes a few seconds for the mattress to respond to the pressure and heat of your body, and then it takes some time for the mattress to snap back into shape once you’ve moved. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that not all sleepers will enjoy the Nectar mattress. If you don’t like having a sinking feeling while sleeping, or excessive hug, then this isn’t the mattress you’re looking for.
The support the mattress offers is very good. The 1” of gel memory foam on top of the 3” of comfort memory foam mean that you have a consistent feeling of support, and you’ll interact with and sink to the base foam very slowly, allowing you to get settled and find a good position before the mattress is done responding to you. This means that most sleepers shouldn’t encounter many problems with pressure relief or pressure points while they are resting.
The Nectar mattress also does a great job at preventing motion transfer. This means that you will be able to get into and out of bed without disturbing a partner, which is desirable for people who work different schedules or have different sleep needs and don’t wish to be disturbed. The tradeoff for this motion transfer control is that the mattress doesn’t have the best bounce. This can make in less desirable for than some other mattresses when it comes to adult fun time in bed, but doesn’t make sex impossible by any means.
Another quality of the Nectar we’d like to address is the smell. An odd smell is common in foam mattresses. The smell of the Nectar was a bit strong for the first 1-2 days, but it goes away pretty quickly after that. If you’re extremely sensitive to smell then you might benefit from allowing the mattress to air out for a few days before using it.
The last aspect of the Nectar mattress we’d like to address is the cooling. The construction materials and the way the cover works definitely help prevent the Nectar from getting too warm. It’s going to be warming than coil, hybrid, or latex mattresses, but it will be cooler than many of the other foam mattresses on the market, and was among the coolest foam mattresses we’ve reviewed.
Sinkage
Our sinkage tests are designed to help you understand how the mattress will perform in different sleeping positions, as well as giving you an idea about its overall durability and quality. Our sinkage tests use an individual who weighs ~140lbs, so your results might be a bit different.
Laying on Back – laying on the back in a regular sleeping position with weight evenly distributed resulted in 3” of sinkage.
Laying on Side – laying on the side in a regular sleeping position with weight evenly distributed produced 3.5” of sinkage.
Slight Edge Sit – sitting on the edge of the bed, but not allowing it to support the full weight of the body created 3.25” of sinkage.
Full Edge Sit – resting the full weight of the body on the bed caused 4.25” of sinkage.
Standing in Middle – standing in the middle of the bed with both feet produced 5.5” of sinkage.

Should I Buy the Nectar Mattress?
The Nectar mattress is a great option for many sleepers. It will be especially appealing to those looking for a medium firmness, and those who want a memory foam mattress. The Nectar stands out in its ability to prevent motion transfer and offer pressure relief. It is also a great option for those looking for lots of support in a mattress. Finally, the Nectar is good for people who enjoy having a longer trial period than other mattress companies, as the 365 night trial they provide is the longest in the industry.
On the whole, the Nectar is a quality mattress, and it’s no surprise that so many people are interested in getting it. Check around and see if you can find some promotional deals, as lowing the price a bit makes the mattress even more competitive.
